Middle School Science Educator

San Carlos Charter (SCC), a progressive K-8 charter school located in San Carlos, is seeking a 1.0 FTE Middle School Science Educator.
The SCC curriculum is centered on current research about learning and the grouping of students. All instruction is based on the constructivist learning theory and multiple intelligence theory, so children are engaged in hands-on, minds-on learning everyday. Curriculum is created by educators and is structured around integrated thematic units. We are resource-based (no textbooks) and instructional practices promote learning in multi-age classroom settings with two grade levels of children in one classroom.
The middle school team of Educators is collaborative and open to new ideas. Team members have direct and honest communication with each other and address conflicts and concerns in a timely and productive way. The team shares a strong work ethic and support/covering for each other is a team ethos. The educators collaborate seamlessly with the Special Education team to support all learners with integrated, inclusive support. A successful middle school educator is flexible and open, understanding of the changeable nature of this age of learner. As such it is essential that middle school educators be able to start over every day with the learners. Flexibility, enthusiasm, and ability to work closely with volunteers (parents and community) to implement curriculum are also important in this environment.
Candidates must be open to research and development within a school setting.
